According to the FDA website on January 24, the FDA issued five guidance documents to help importers and food processors comply with the key food safety requirements of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Among them, the Draft Guidelines and the Small Unit Compliance Guidelines (SECG) can help the industry meet the requirements of the Foreign Supplier Verification Procedure (FSVP). The relevant draft guidance provides the FDA's thinking on how to comply with the FSVP requirements. The importer is responsible for ensuring that the processes and procedures used by the foreign supplier provide at least the same level of public safety protection as preventive controls and production safety regulations, and that the supplier's food is not adulterated or incorrectly labeled for allergens. The third draft guidance explains the use of the term "same level of public health protection" in the FSVP regulation and the production safety regulation. The fourth guide is intended to help food processors and manufacturers meet the requirements for implementing hazard analysis and risk prevention and control.
